Why we’re investing in Daedal: Building the diagnostics infrastructure for fusion

October 15, 2026

Nuclear fusion is one of the world’s most ambitious technological pursuits. As it moves from scientific ambition toward a commercial industry, the ability to measure progress quickly, accurately and consistently will become increasingly important.

That’s why OMERS Ventures is proud to invest in Daedal’s US$4 million pre-seed round as the company builds the diagnostics infrastructure the fusion industry needs.

We were initially drawn to Daedal by the team. Henry Gould combines deep domain expertise with the optimism, ambition and drive required to build an important company in an emerging global market.

Public and private investment in fusion is accelerating, driven by energy security priorities and rapidly growing power demand, particularly from AI. As more capital enters the sector, reactor developers, investors and governments will need better ways to measure and demonstrate technical progress.

Fusion developers need diagnostics throughout the development process, but building these systems internally is not necessarily the best use of their specialized expertise or resources. A dedicated partner can deliver faster, more accurate and increasingly standardized measurement, helping developers benchmark progress, focus R&D resources, iterate more quickly and demonstrate milestones. We have seen this pattern in other technology sectors, and we believe it will hold true for fusion.

Specialization also creates compounding advantages. By working as a trusted partner across multiple fusion reactor developers, Daedal can aggregate demand for diagnostic systems, strengthen its supply chain and apply insights from a growing number of deployments to deliver better, faster and more cost-effective solutions.

As fusion advances toward commercialization, we believe Daedal can occupy an important position in its emerging supply chain, helping the industry measure, demonstrate and accelerate progress.

This is the kind of opportunity we look for: an exceptional founder addressing a critical need in a market at an inflection point. We’re excited to see Daedal being built in Toronto, attracting exceptional technical talent from Canada and abroad and helping catalyze the country’s emerging fusion ecosystem.

We’re proud to partner with Henry and the team on that journey.
